WAM Coin

What it is

A fork of Bitcoin Core v28.1 with four deliberate departures: a hard ceiling of 22,000,000 coins, a two-minute block target, RandomX proof of work so that ordinary CPUs stay competitive against purpose-built hardware, and difficulty retargeting on every block so that a rented hash-rate spike cannot freeze the chain.

Roughly 250,000 lines of peer-to-peer networking, script interpretation and wallet code are inherited from a codebase that has been adversarially reviewed for fifteen years. Retyping that would not have made WAM more original — it would have made it less safe. About 3,000 lines are genuinely ours, and every one of them is public.

None of the founder reserve is spendable at launch. All 2,000,000 are locked in the genesis block itself by OP_CHECKLOCKTIMEVERIFY, releasing 20% a year from September 2027 to September 2031. The 5% treasury fee is a consensus rule that stops permanently at block 400,000, after which miners receive the entire subsidy. Neither is a promise; both are enforced by every node, and you can read the lock out of block 0 yourself.

What the founder does not do

The founder keeps the founder reserve and grants himself nothing above it. He does not sell WAM and does not support its price — because a founder who accumulates beyond his own share corrupts the distribution, and a coin concentrated in one hand is not distributed however its schedule reads.

If he ever needs it for something, he buys it the way you would: from a miner or a venue, at whatever it is worth that day.

This is a restriction he placed on himself for the fairness of the distribution. It is not a promise to you, and it puts a floor under nothing.

And one that is not ours to write. On 26 August 2026 SatoshiLabs merged WAM into the registry every wallet reads before it derives an address: SLIP-0044 coin type 5718349, and SLIP-0173 prefix wam. The numbers are reserved to this chain and to no other. That is a fact about us kept by somebody else — it is not an endorsement, a listing, or a promise that any wallet will add support.

Those are the only accounts. Nobody speaking for WAM will message you first, offer you an allocation, or ask you for a key or a payment — there is nothing to buy and no reason anyone would need to reach you. CHANNELS.txt is the plain-text copy of this list, kept so it can be signed and checked rather than merely believed.

Mining

WAM is mined by ordinary computers. There is no pre-sale, no allocation to buy into, and no way to acquire it at launch except by mining it or by trading with someone who did.

Mainnet opens 15 September 2026. Until then the testnet is running, and its coins are worth nothing by design.

If you run a node, subscribe to releases on the repository — Watch ▾ → Custom → Releases. Some releases change a consensus rule, and a node left on an old one is rejected by the network at the next block it disagrees about. It does eventually warn you, in a log nobody is reading. A release notification arrives where you got the software, before any of that.

One pool is not a network. There is a project pool at pool.wamcoin.org, and there should be others that are not ours. What keeps a chain decentralised is not how a pool is built — a pool is central by definition — it is that a miner can leave for one somebody else runs, or mine alone. POOL_OPERATOR.md is the whole thing: architecture, configuration, payouts, and what it costs to run. If you start one, say so and it will be listed here beside ours.

The founder mines too — same software, same public pool, same difficulty as anyone else, and the addresses he mines to will be published here. A new chain with few miners is a chain that is cheap to attack, so he is the floor under its security until others arrive. His share of the hash rate will be large at launch and is meant to fall; it will be published so you can watch it fall rather than take his word for it.

Trading

WAM is not listed anywhere, and there is no price. It cannot be bought.

Enquiries have been sent to six decentralised venues — Komodo Wallet, BasicSwap DEX, Bisq, Maya Protocol, Haveno and Block DX — asking what they require in order to list a chain like this. None of them has agreed to anything. They are requests for requirements, sent before launch because reviews at venues of this kind take weeks, and this line will say something different only when one of them says yes.

WAM is its own layer 1 rather than a token on someone else's chain, so it settles by atomic swap or a peer-to-peer order book. It cannot appear on an automated market maker such as Uniswap without a bridge and a wrapped representation, which is the same reason Monero does not.
